Blackberry enterprise server
So what is Blackberry enterprise server? As are also one of the few businesses certified to install and support Blackberry Enterprise Server we are perfectly placed to provide excellent advice in this area. Essentially, it-s a piece of software, that sits next to a company's existing email server and copies the emails the server receives. It seamlessly integrates – a benefit to the customer, as there isn-t doesn’t interfere with the customer-s firewall. And, a benefit to the IT department due to its tried and tested nature and relatively low management needs.

Blackberry will only integrate into the three email servers - however as 70% of businesses already use Microsoft servers, this is rarely an issue.

How it works - What happens to an email with BES?
An email is sent to your company email address
An email will be received by the company email server i.e. Microsoft exchange or Lotus Domino, where the email can then be viewed on the desktop.
Simultaneously and in a seamless process…
  • A copy of the email goes to the PC loaded with the BES software
  • The software identifies the user and encrypts it.
  • The email is sent out onto the internet to the secure Blackberry relay
  • The RIM relay checks all the information is correct
  • The email then goes over GPRS networks which delivers it via a secure connection to the BlackBerry handheld
  • An email notification will then appear on the Blackberry device

For businesses that maybe don’t run Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino & Novell GroupWise email servers there is the option of Blackberry Internet Solution or BIS. BIS can utilise internet mail services to deliver a similar level of functionality and capability as the full Blackberry Enterprise Server.

Users can still utilise Power point, Word, PDF and Excel file viewers and have the ability to display TIFF, PNG and JPEG image files.
